Windows 11 26H2 Is Here: Check Which Update Route Your Snapdragon PC Uses

A Snapdragon PC running 26H1 follows a different update route from one running 24H2 or 25H2. Check your version and the newly confirmed issue affecting some older audio-dependent apps before acting.

Check your installed version first

Microsoft released the Windows 11 2026 Update, or version 26H2, on September 29, 2026. On a Snapdragon PC, start by searching for and running winver from Start, then note the installed version. Arm PCs running 24H2, 25H2 and 26H1 do not all follow the same update route.

We checked the official information on October 3, Beijing time. Use the version actually installed on your current PC. When shopping, confirm the exact configuration and preinstalled version with the seller. A 2026 model label or a Snapdragon processor generation alone does not establish which Windows version should appear.

On 24H2 or 25H2, wait for the applicable 26H2 offer

Eligible 24H2 and 25H2 devices receive a small enablement package that activates components delivered through earlier updates. The transition can complete with one restart on eligible devices. That does not guarantee a particular download speed, total installation time or compatibility result for every PC.

Use Settings, then Windows Update. Microsoft offers a Get the latest updates as soon as they are available option, but rollout is phased; enabling it does not promise immediate delivery. If Windows says the update is not ready for your device, follow the official guidance. Microsoft advises against manually bypassing a compatibility hold.

On 26H1, no 26H2 offer does not mean support has stopped

Microsoft created 26H1 for selected new devices, with the first using Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series processors. Its Windows foundation differs from 24H2, 25H2 and 26H2, so devices supplied with 26H1 cannot take this route to the annual feature update released in the second half of 2026.

Version 26H1 still receives monthly security, quality and feature updates. Microsoft promises a future Windows upgrade path without naming a release or date in this notice. Keep installing updates applicable to your PC. Do not treat 26H1 as an intermediate upgrade for an older 24H2 or 25H2 computer, either.

Check this issue if you depend on an older player or game

At verification time, Microsoft had confirmed that some applications relying on Windows built-in AC-3, or Dolby Digital, audio decoding may fail to start or close unexpectedly after the September 22 KB5124010 update or later updates. Some games and media players can be affected. KB5124010 itself is labeled a preview update; this issue is not limited to people who just moved to 26H2.

The notice lists 26H2, 25H2 and 24H2, not 26H1. Many modern applications use their own decoding components and may be unaffected. The issue was confirmed, with a fix still pending. This is not evidence that every audio application is affected or that the problem is specific to Arm.

If your symptoms match, record the application version, the file involved and the KB numbers in Update history. Compare them with the official issue and the software publisher's guidance. Preserve evidence when the connection is uncertain instead of removing updates in bulk because of a headline.

Plan the next step around your actual work

For a PC already on 24H2 or 25H2, check update eligibility and essential applications before scheduling the upgrade. For a new PC on 26H1, continue on its existing update route. Follow your administrator's schedule on a managed work device instead of changing systems to match a version number.

Microsoft lists October 13, 2026 as the end of support for 24H2 Home and Pro. Plan a timely move to a supported release. If a safeguard blocks it, ask support about the appropriate route rather than turning a temporary wait into permanent avoidance of updates. This date does not apply to Enterprise or Education.

Save important files before upgrading and allow time for restarting and retesting. Afterwards, complete a meeting, document export, print-and-scan task or a session in a game you play. Launching an application alone does not verify every function.

Version 26H2 is not a universal solution for Windows ARM compatibility. Microsoft still requires suitable built-in or manufacturer-supplied ARM64 peripheral drivers, and some anti-cheat games need separate support checks. This is an interpretation of published information, not an upgrade, gaming or battery-life test on a particular PC.
