Dell and HP Snapdragon Googlebooks: Check the OS and Your Phone Before Buying

A Snapdragon processor does not mean Windows comes installed. Check your essential apps, phone version, peripherals and local availability before choosing a Googlebook.

The same processor name can lead to a different system

A Snapdragon X Elite badge or a familiar Dell XPS name is not enough to establish that a laptop can replace your Windows PC. Dell XPS Googlebook and HP Googlebook 14, announced on September 21, include Snapdragon X Elite models, but their system and application choices need a separate look. We checked the sources on October 1, 2026 and have not tested either device.

Dell specifies Googlebook OS. Google also includes Intel processors in its initial range, so Googlebook does not mean ARM PC. The chip determines some hardware capabilities; the operating system and app versions determine how you get your work done.

Start with your five essential apps

Google lists desktop Chrome and Android apps. When discussing Windows apps, Qualcomm points to Microsoft 365 through the web or cloud. That does not establish that you can move your existing Windows installers across.

List the five applications you rely on and check the appropriate version of each. Bring a formatted document, a typical spreadsheet and your usual meeting workflow to a demonstration. Check macros, add-ins, offline editing and export against your needs. Matching app names are not enough: try the functions you actually use, and keep your current computer until they are confirmed.

Check your phone before counting on continuity

HP specifies supported devices running Android 17 or later, with setup required, for phone connectivity. Quick Access and Cast my Apps carry that condition too. Owning an Android phone alone does not establish access to every advertised feature.

Check your phone model, installed system and its maker's upgrade plans, then confirm the file access or app casting you want. Ideally, demonstrate it with your own phone and apps. If the conditions are not yet met, compare the laptop on what it can do by itself rather than paying extra for an unconfirmed convenience.

Check games and peripherals separately

Google uses GeForce NOW to illustrate access to some PC games, a cloud gaming scenario. Distinguish cloud gaming, Android games and locally installed Windows games. Check a suitable route for each game you play, including regional service access, networking and ongoing costs. A promotional image does not establish compatibility with your entire library.

Look up exact printer, scanner and meeting accessory models. Dell lists two USB-C ports, so older equipment may need adapters. A matching connector does not establish support for scanning, duplex printing or a dedicated control utility. Ask for a demonstration of those functions or documentation for the relevant system.

Read local pricing and subscription terms

Dell's US announcement starts at $999; HP's starts at $1,199.99 with October availability expected. These are not Chinese prices. Google plans retail availability from October 4 in the US and October 5 in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Australia. Those dates are still ahead at our check. Confirm local configurations, delivery and service separately; a preorder page is not evidence of shipment.

HP's included 12 months of Google AI Pro has regional and eligibility conditions, with charges after the offer ends under its terms. Budget for subscriptions you need, adapters and warranty arrangements. Record the cancellation date in advance rather than treating a temporary offer as a permanently free feature.

Decide with a real piece of work

If you mainly work in a browser, are happy with suitable Android apps and have a supported phone, these models may deserve a demonstration. Start with receiving a file, then edit it, join a meeting, export it and print it before deciding whether the laptop can become your primary machine.

If essential Windows software or a route to your regular games remains unverified, keep using a computer that already meets those needs. Look for battery evidence from the same model doing similar work; figures from another Snapdragon laptop are not transferable. Confirm today's tasks first, then compare the screen, weight and price.
